Hooked On You

– by Jenn Matthews

First off, I must say, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a generous offer from the author of this book to read it before its release date sometime in February with no review obligation. After communicating briefly with Jenn Matthews, new author of Ylva’s and the architect of this book, “Hooked On You,” I was intrigued. I promised that I would give it a go after I finished the 3 books that I was reading then. Nonetheless, the story which captivated me from the start has inspired me to decide on commenting about it.

It IS ironic that the book has the word “Hooked” on its title because…!!! Ok, ever the curious one, despite being busy reading several books simultaneously and carrying on with me day job, I just thought I’d read the first pages of Matthews’ debut published novel just to get the gist of her writing tone and style. There was a Prologue. Good, so I dove in. Oh. My. God. Bloody hell! I instantly suspended all me other reads then so I could dive into this one! Needless to say, I was instantly HOOKED! From the Prologue alone! Whaaa?!

Escape To Pleasure: Lesbian Travel Erotica

– by Sandy Lowe and Victoria Villasenor (Editors)

THIS was me first anthology of 2019 and it was a doozy!! First and foremost, BRIT RYDER!!! Yes, ever since reading her debut erotic novella, “Shameless,” she had become one of me favourite authors, obvs, and I had been twiddling me thumbs waiting patiently for her next endeavour and….voila!!! What dy’a know?! Enter “Mistakes Happen” in this antho, “Escape To Pleasure!!” Yay! I must say, even with just Ryder’s story alone, I would own a copy of the antho and read the entire thing in a heartbeat! AND, the icing for this one? Discovered that another one of me favourite authors, Jeannie Levig, also had a story in this fast-becoming-an-amazing-antho-for-me book!! WHA?!! I was beside meself with utter glee, to say the least! Woohoo! Lucky me! I’ll get to Ryder and Levig’s stories in a mo but let me first disclaim that I usually don’t comment on anthologies (with the exception of one other because of one of me favourite authors included in it) and never erotica anthos, but with TWO of me faves in this particular one? Sod it, I’ll do it!

– by Anna Burke

A holiday gift surprise fell onto me lap whilst I was on holiday, courtesy of the very kind and generous Salem West of Bywater Books! (Ta, mate!) Yes, it was in the form of a book (me fav form!)!

Thorn” by Anna Burke.

Never read anything by this author ever before.

Wow. To say the book captivated me was an understatement. I was hooked, lined and sinkered. From the first paragraph. Literally.

Just read this… Continue reading “Thorn”

A Wish Upon A Star

– by Jeannie Levig

Once again, Jeannie Levig blew me away. This time with her latest, “A Wish Upon A Star.” Already psyched to read it after breezing through its excerpt because of how the story started, what was entailed in it and the flow was already pulling me in even with just a couple of chapters, I couldn’t believe me luck when I finally got to read the entire story! It was simply divine. I couldn’t ask for more. Levig crafted an utterly compelling, thought-provoking, heart-wrenching, heartwarming story with characters who immediately entranced me from the get-go, hooked me in and I was addicted. Having read Levig’s other books previously, I knew I would be captivated by her characters and her storytelling style. Only this time, apart from all the attributes that I’ve come to love and enjoy from Levig’s work, this time, she also awarded me a story (and all its components) that was truly refreshing to me. I never read anything portrayed and/or told like how Levig did in this book. Continue reading “A Wish Upon A Star”

One Way Or Another

– by A.L. Brooks

I was very excited to read Angela Brooks‘ (A.L. Brooks) latest, “One Way Or Another” (because it’d been a while since reading her last book) & by gosh, it was well worth the wait! This book was such a marvellous read I practically inhaled it in no time at all! Pure Brooks style – humour, wit, with a touch of naughtiness, complete with some sly sexiness to boot! Positively delish!

The first few pages of the first chapter alone grabbed me already because….well, I certainly didn’t expect Sarah and Bethany’s first meeting to be in (or rather, outside) a…..sex shop! That in and of itself gave me the chuckles because…well,  you need to read about the circumstance to which these two women “bumped” into each other! Oh, what could go wrong, eh?

A shy primary school teacher + an attractive nosy parker + a parent + sex shop
= Hilariously AWKWARD!

The Sea

– by KL Hughes

I normally don’t comment on shorts but KL Hughes‘ “The Sea” is a rare exception for me because…WOW! What a SPELLBINDING supernatural lesfic short, indeed! As usual, Hughes’ beautiful, poetic, lyrical words simply mesmerised!

Ohhh…Louise and Nicole… Seductive!

First off, I didn’t know anything about the story except that there was a professor, Louise, and a mysterious student of hers, Nicole. But because it was Hughes’ lesfic work, and being that I’ve always enjoyed her lyrically poetic writing style and storytelling (“Popcorn Love” and “The Art of Us“), I just had to check out this mysteriously-sounding story. Plus, hey, didn’t hurt that Ylva offered it for FREE, did it?

From the first words in the story describing Louise and her disposition, particularly in regard to the ever-mysterious student of hers who just showed up one day in her classroom, Nicole, I was completely hooked. Addicted. Anyway, for reasons Louise couldn’t fathom, every sense of her being seemed to be bewitched by the mere appearance of Nicole which Hughes described in every colourful, seductively mesmerising detail so vividly that I could literally feel the magnetic pull that Louise was feeling for Nicole! Therein lied the dilemma…..Louise’s dilemma. There was no chance in hell she was going to let herself be tempted because of a vitally crucial life-changing reason. Yes, she carried a long-held, very dark secret that she’d hidden about herself and did not want it to ruin or taint Nicole in any way. In essence, Louise really didn’t have any choice.

But the more Louise tried to make herself scarce, the more she found her seemingly unavoidable student to be always lurking in her orbit, not to mention her ever-hypnotic aroma and energy that would literally rendered Louise useless! And that could never be as far as struggling Louise was concerned! Poor soul! So, desperate times called for desperate measures. She blatantly avoided Nicole who was just behaving innocently with her, either asking her about the course or seeking guidance like any other student of hers, really.

Then, the final act happened and what a shocking twist, indeed! Left me desperately yearning for more because the words, the expressions of the final scene were so sublimely lyrical with utterly stunning visuals lulling my consciousness into complete satiation. So crushingly intoxicating were the effects! What a superb ending! One word: Poetic.

I would most definitely read anything related to this brilliantly created, deliciously sizzling, original story if Hughes were to explore it further. But this short ticks every box in the storytelling narrative, though. In only 4K words, Hughes managed to convey a beautifully crafted story, complete with solidly described characters, situations, the plot and the mystery that gnawed at me senses from the start that kept me guessing until the very end! So, bloody well done, Hughes! I’m gobsmacked!

An enthusiastic MUST-READ! In only 10 minutes of reading, you’ll get to experience one of the most creative, original, not to mention, breathtakingly rousing tales of mystery and the supernatural!
